Authoritative and accessible, International Piano is an essential guide for pianists and piano enthusiasts alike
International Piano brings news and features on pianists past and present, including interviews with pianists about new recordings, exploratory articles on great pianists of the past and their recorded legacies, listening guides to key repertoire on record, educational tips and resources for pianists young and old including Masterclasses from today’s great artists, and extensive reviews of new recordings, live concerts, books and sheet music. Authoritative and accessible, International Piano is an essential guide for pianists and piano enthusiasts alike.
When International Piano first launched in the autumn of 1997, it was as a quarterly magazine (International Piano Quarterly, or IPQ as it was fondly known), edited by Gramophone’s then Deputy Editor Harriet Smith – still a Gramophone writer today – as a specialist offshoot. As Gramophone changed owners, so too did International Piano, losing its ‘Q’ when the magazine went bi-monthly. For most of its life International Piano existed quite separately from Gramophone, but when the Mark Allen Group acquired International Piano from Rhinegold in 2018, they were reunited under the same roof once more, a bond that has now become more formal. Once again, the role of editing International Piano is undertaken by Gramophone’s Deputy Editor. A lot has changed in 25 years, but to some extent things have come full circle.
