Classical musicians and juggling dancers may not be common performance partners, but the Gandini juggling ensemble earlier this year set out to change that. The troupe commissioned a score from composer Nimrod Borenstein for a juggling ballet which they performed at the Royal Opera House's Linbury Studio in January, with Camerata Alma Viva. The score was called Suspended Opus 69 and the accompanying ballet 4×4 Ephemeral Architectures; the work has since been widely performed, while the score has now been recorded by new German label Solaire as part of the first in a three-CD deal with Borenstein. The orchestra for the recording was one newly created by the label, Das Freie Orchestra Berlin. The recording is available from Solaire's website - but for listeners to that recording, here's a reminder of the dramatic and rather beautiful original context.
