Enjoy this year's Gurwitz International Piano Competition live from San Antonio
The 2024 Gurwitz International Piano Competition is currently underway with performances from the Jo Long Theatre, Carver Community Cultural Center, San Antonio, being broadcast live. You can follow the competition on the Gramophone website this year (see the videos below) with an exciting lineup of competitors from the USA, China, South Korea, Taiwan and Russia.
Round III of the competition (broadcast on February 1) requires each of the three finalists to perform a solo piano work composed after 1950 and a newly commissioned piece by Aaron Prado titled El Colibrí y la Cempasúchil (The Hummingbird and the Marigold).
Round IV of this year's competition (on February 3) is the final Piano Concerto round, with the finalists accompanied by the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Scott Yoo (who is also the Jury Chair of the competition). At the end of this round the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards will be presented.
The Gurwitz takes place every four years, the Gold medal winner of the last competition in 2020 was China's Jiale Li.
