The work features on their new Editor's Choice album 'Magnificat 2'
The Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge under Andrew Nethsingha continue their superb - and significant - series devoted to exploring the music of Evensong with 'Magnificat 2', an Editor's Choice album in the new issue of Gramophone.
Featuring settings of the evening canticles by Herbert Howells, Giles Swayne, Sydney Watson, William Walton, Lennox Berkeley, Herbert Sumsion, Francis Jackson and Julian Anderson, and of the Magnificat by Arvo Pärt, it's a beautiful survey of the varied ways different composers have approached the texts.
Below, we bring you a film of the choir singing the Magnificat from Sydney Watson's 'Service in E'.
Furthermore, the album includes a 38-page booklet featuring contributions from former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, Julian Anderson and Andrew Nethsingha, which you can read online here: Magnificat Vol 2 (booklet).
