Víkingur Ólafsson's upcoming album for DG, 'From Afar', is both an exploration of the music of György Kurtág (b1926) and also a reflection on the profound silences that can be found while one is journeying through the Icelandic landscape.

In a new video released today Ólafsson explores the new album and recalls an inspirational meeting with Kurtág last year. The new album is built around piano miniatures by Kurtág and, unusually, each of the pieces on the album has been recorded on both a grand and an upright piano.

The first tracks to be released from the album, are two recordings of Ave Maria by Icelandic composer Sigvaldi Kaldalóns (1881-1946). You can listen to it on most streaming services via this link: https://dg.lnk.to/FromAfar
