The choir sings an arrangement of the Irish carol ahead of its Christmas concert on 19 December

Video of the Day is a glorious new arrangement of the Wexford Carol, a traditional Irish Christmas carol sung by VOCES8. The carol is arranged by Timothy Noon, Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral and the father of second soprano Molly Noon, who sings the first verse solo.

The carol came to prominence in the 19th century when composer William Grattan Flood transcribed the tune from a local singer whilst working as the organist at St Aidan’s Cathedral in Enniscorthy, Wexford. The Wexford Carol quickly rose in popularity and was soon included in the Oxford Book of Carols, finding its way into carol books all around the world.

The Wexford Carol is taken from the new VOCES8 LIVE From London concert, Winter Wonderland, which will be available online from 19 December (watch party 22 Dec, 7pm).
