Mühlemann performs 'Se pietà' from Handel's opera Giulio Cesare with pianist Patricia Ulrich
Regula Mühlemann has already made several notable appearances on disc for both Sony and Deutsche Grammophon. She featured on Yannick Nézet-Séguin's recording of Mendelssohn's Symphony No 2 (alongside Karina Gauvin and Daniel Behle), part of a complete set of the symphonies that was our Recording of the Month in September 2017 and was also shortlisted for a Gramophone Award in 2018.
Mühlemann has also produced two recitals for Sony, one devoted to Mozart and the other to operatic depictions of Cleopatra by Graun, Legrenzi, Hasse, Scarlatti, Vivaldi and Handel. When reviewing that album for Gramophone, David Vickers wrote that Mühlemann's account of 'Se pietà' from Handel's opera Giulio Cesare 'is as profoundly moving as any of the most distinguished sopranos to have tackled it on disc.'
Here is Mühlemann performing that very aria with pianist Patricia Ulrich for the BR-Klassik YouTube channel:
