Piano Sonata No 30 in E major, Op. 109: 1. Vivace ma non troppo

In the May 1976 issue of Gramophone, Joan Chissell reviewed Maurizio Pollini's new recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas Nos 30 and 31, saying of the finale of No 30: 'Pollini's shaping of this movement as a whole is masterly, with a great sense of climax in the last variation before sinking back into the profound peace of the theme itself, unadorned, at the end.'

In September 2019, more than 40 years after that original recording, Pollini performed Beethoven's last three sonatas at Munich’s Herkulessaal and the live recording has now been released by Deutsche Grammophon. DG have also released a video of Pollini performing the first movement of Sonata No 30:
