Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir projects need little introduction, they have brought together thousands of singers over the previous four instalments, but Virtual Choir 5 has gone to another level, and another part of the universe, entirely.

Premiered today, Deep Field: The Impossible Magnitude of our Universe is 30 minutes long, features 8000 voices from 120 countries, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Eric Whitacre Singers, and visuals by 59 Productions & Space Telescope Science Institute.

Deep Field was inspired by the Hubble Telescope's Deep Field image, which itself was assembled from nearly 350 separate exposures taken by the Hubble Telescope in December 1995. Whitacre's piece was premiered by the Minnesota Orchestra & Minnesota Chorale in May 2015 in Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis, and was played at the 2015 BBC Proms by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
