A live streamed concert exploring the songs that Benjamin Britten composed between 1937 and 1965
Wigmore Hall's live streamed concerts are exceptionally well produced, and their latest, a Britten Gala, features soprano Louise Alder, mezzo Jennifer Johnston, tenor Allan Clayton, baritone James Newby and pianist James Baillieu in an exploration of Britten's songs.
There is also an interesting interval conversation between Allan Clayton and John Gilhooly.
Jennifer Johnston features on a recording that has been shortlisted for a Gramophone Award this year: John Adams's Doctor Atomic. Allan Clayton appears on two recordings that have also been shortlisted this year: Liszt's Complete Songs, Vol 5 (on Hyperion) and as Hamlet in Brett Dean's setting of Shakespeare's play.
