A video premiere from the recording sessions of Sheku Kanneh-Mason's debut Decca album 'Inspiration'

Sheku Kanneh-Mason hasn't looked back since winning the BBC Young Musician 2016 competition, with performances at the BAFTAs (he has been invited back to perform for a second time in February) and debut performances at the BBC Proms and Carnegie Hall.

On Friday his debut album for Decca, 'Inspiration', was released and it features collaborations with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and their inspirational conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, principally in Shostakovich's First Cello Concerto.

The album also includes arrangements of Bob Marley's 'No Woman, No Cry' (which has been released as a single in advance of the album and has already clocked up 2.5m streams on Spotify alone) and others, including the piece that we are pleased to be able to premiere below today: 'Song of the Birds'. It is a traditional tune that was arranged for cellos by Pablo Casals. And it is a real beauty.
