London's Royal Albert Hall played host to 251 young musicians and 3000 primary school singers on Friday April 20, performing as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's World Orchestra. Part of the RPO's Cultural Olympiad Project organised through its 'RPO resound' outreach programme, the event involved students from the London Boroughs of Brent, Haringey and Enfield, performing alongside RPO musicians under conductor Nicholas Collan. Three diverse music groups also featured in the event: a saz group, a steel pan group and a rock group.
Led by RPO workshop leader James Redwood, members of Brent, Haringey and Enfield youth orchestras created an Olympic symphony together, taking inspiration from the Olympic motto 'Faster, Higher, Stronger'. The massed forces also performed the work a few days later on April 24 at Wembley Arena.
