The Met: Live in HD – Iolanta and Bluebeard's Castle
Gramophone
Tuesday, January 27, 2015
This Valentine's Day (February 14) Tchaikovsky's Iolanta and Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle will be performed as a double bill at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and broadcast live to cinemas around the world. Conducted by Valery Gergiev and directed by Mariusz Treliński, the production is inspired by noir films of the 1940s and stars Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczala in Iolanta, and Nadja Michael and Mikhael Petrenko in Bluebeard's Castle.
Netrebko's new recording of Iolanta with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Emmanuel Villaume for DG was a Gramophone Editor's Choice recommendation in the January 2015 issue. Gramophone's critic Edward Seckerson wrote, 'Netrebko has never been better than here...her head and heart are so self-evidently engaged.' You can read the full review in our online reviews database.
