The Brazilian guitarist also reveals details of his new Decca Gold album
The Decca Gold-signed Brazilian guitarist Plínio Fernandes has announced details of his new album this morning - and you can watch a beautifully reflective performance of one of the works below.
Called 'Bacheando', the album will unite Fernandes's love for the music of Bach with the sounds of his own country, via Heitor Villa-Lobos, Paulinho Nogueira, Mário Albanese - as well as Sérgio Assad, who has written a world premiere as well as several arrangements for the album.
'Being Brazilian and growing up listening to Villa-Lobos with Bach as his main outside influence, you see a transcendental element of Bach’s music all over and throughout history,' said Fernandes. 'All who came after were influenced by him.'
The album includes an arrangement of the Adagio from the Concerto in D Minor, BWV 974, originally written for oboe by Baroque composer Benedetto Marcello, which you can watch Fernandes play below.
The programme also features Bach’s Prelude, Fugue and Allegro in E-Flat Major, BWV 998, while Assad’s new piece is a three-movement work, Preludio Fuga e Vivace, described as a Brazilian dance-infused response to the Bach masterpiece. Other works include the Prelúdio from Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No 4, plus arrangements by Assad of Paulinho Nogueira’s Bachianinha No 2 and Luiz Gonzaga’s Araponga.
'Bacheando' is out on Decca Gold September 22.
