Music for Self-Isolation: a documentary

Artists share their experiences, hopes and fears of life during the pandemic in this moving and thought-provoking film

When the world shut down in early 2020, composer Frank Horvat had wanted to raise spirits and create music for artists forced into self-isolation, and so across six weeks composed 31 short solo and duo works for a variety of instruments and voice. The music was then recorded by leading Canadian soloists and orchestral players, in what became the Music for Self-Isolation album

But what began as a project for musicians to support each other and their audience through the beginning of the pandemic evolved, over a year, into a worldwide collaboration to share music and musicians' stories with a wider audience. That story has now been captured in a beautifully-filmed, thought-provoking and moving documentary by Adam Crosby, in which artists open up about and share their experiences, hopes and fears of life during the global pandemic. We'd like to help share those reflections by publishing the film here.

Last month we published a film of horn player and Toronto Symphony Orchestra member Audrey Good's beautiful and evocative performance of 'Horn', recorded in an empty Roy Thomson Hall.
