As The Mozartists launch a new recording project, their Music Director talks to James Jolly about the project

Ian Page and The Mozartists have launched a new recorded project on Signum Classics focusing on music that falls under the stylistic banner, 'Sturm und Drang'. Ian spoke by Zoom with Gramophone's Editor-in-Chief about this artistic movement, how he chose the repertoire and his approach to it.

Volume 1, which contains symphonies by Franz Ignaz Beck and Joseph Haydn, as well as orchestral music and operatic arias by Gluck, Jommelli and Traetta, was selected as an Editor's Choice in Gramophone's May issue, the result of a glowing review by David Threasher which said that 'Ian Page’s projects with The Mozartists are distinguished not only by exemplary standards of performance but also by the ambition and imagination that underpin them. "Mozart in London" (7/18) was a vital, ear-opening exploration of music in the English capital in the 1760s and now Page and his musicians turn their attention to developments in operatic and orchestral music at around the same time in Central Europe.'
