This year's Gramophone Awards ceremony in London will live long in the memory for many reasons, but among the highlights was a live performance by Carolyn Sampson, Iestyn Davies and Joseph Middleton of Purcell's 'Sound the Trumpet' in which the singers engaged in a good-natured bit of one-upmanship. Just listen to the high C that Sampson unleashes 35 seconds in – absolutely glorious!

Iestyn Davies won this year's Baroque Vocal Award and Carolyn Sampson the Gramophone Choral Award.
