Faster Than Sound

Curated by Aldeburgh Music, 'Faster Than Sound' is a groundbreaking series combining musical genres and digital art forms in five weeklong residencies. Following a development residency at Aldeburgh in 2012, cellist Peter Gregson and London-based creative technologists Reactify returned to Aldeburgh on May 18, 2013, joined by violinist Pekka Kuusisto. The group performed four world premieres by Martin Suckling, Yann Seznec, Nick Ryan, and a piece jointly by Gregson and Kuusisto.

Gregson and Reactify first began developing their goPlay software in 2012. It is programmed with the key elements of the composition, focusing on pitch sequences and timbral effects so it can understand the score during a live performance, enabling the performer to interpret the piece of music, not merely play with a backing track or a strict metronome.
