Vladimir Ashkenazy to appear on BBC Radio 4’s ‘One to One’ – hear an excerpt!

BBC Radio 4 is launching a new series of ‘One to One’, focusing on high-profile professionals, who have reached the peak of their careers, and discussing how the prospect of growing older affects their approach and attitude to their work.
In the first episode on December 4, presenter Olivia O’Leary will speak to pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, who at the age of 75 continues to travel the world, maintaining multiple roles including Philharmonia Orchestra and Iceland Symphony conductor laureate, Sydney Symphony principal conductor and European Youth Orchestra music director. Ashkenazy discusses topics including the arthrosis (rather than the widely misreported arthritis) in his hands, which affects his piano playing, and about avoiding the stereotype of the ‘older’ conductor.
The new series of ‘One to One’ begins on Tuesday December 4, 2012 at 9.30am on Radio 4.
