A new arrangement of the classic carol performed by the VOCES8 Foundation Choir and Orchestra

Continuing with the festivities, take a listen to this sublime performance of O Come, O Come Emmanuel in a new arrangement by Taylor Scott Davis. This world premiere recording by the VOCES8 Foundation Choir and Orchestra conducted by Barnaby Smith features on their new album 'A Choral Christmas'.

Despite being arranged in 2021, the recognisable melody dates back to the 15th century. The original latin setting, 'Veni veni Emmanuel' was eventually translated in 1851 by clergyman and scholar John Mason Neale (he also created the english text for Good King Wenceslas). Its haunting melody certainly sets it apart from the usual roster of carol concerts - perhaps this is key to its enduring popularity.

Live from London Christmas 2023 runs until 7 January. You can find more information here. 'A Choral Christmas' is out now and can be heard below via Apple Music.
