Yannick Nézet-Séquin leads our list of 10 young conductors we think will shape our listening in the years to come, and you can read our full interview with the 36-year old next music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra by editor-in-chief James Jolly. The feature also includes contributions from Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim and Pierre Boulez. After compiling the list we noticed to our surprise that it only contained men, so we invited Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra to reflect on this state of affairs - you can read her article here.
Also in the June 2011 issue:
Jeremy Nicholas joins the Prince Consort and Stephen Hough to play through the composer's new songs.
The Gramophone Collection explores recordings of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin - which interpretations does critic Duncan Druce choose?
Neil Sedaka is known to millions as a singer and songwriter - but how many know he was expelled from the International Tchaikovsky Competition? Find out why in My Music.
Baritone Christopher Maltman writes this month's Diary, violinist and conductor Thomas Zehetmair talks about Hans Gál in our 'Conversation With...' interview, catch up with the latest Hi-fi developments in our High Fidelity audio section, and find out the latest news about what to download, and where from, in James Jolly’s Tune Surfing feature.
Plus more than 140 reviews, including of course our Editor's Choice selection featuring the best releases of the month.
