We're almost in the final days of accepting nominations for the inaugural year of the Gramophone Hall of Fame. As Gramophone approaches its 90th birthday in April 2013, we’re launching an initiative to celebrate the men and women who have made the classical music industry what it is; the musicians, producers, engineers and executives whose talent, vision and genius have enriched the record catalogue since the first sounds were captured on wax in the last decade of the 19th century. We've drawn together a long list, and we'd like you help in selecting from that list the 50 people who will be the first to enter the Gramophone Hall of Fame. You can find out more about it here: Gramophone Hall of Fame.
Sir Mark Elder - himself one of the conductors you can vote for - has talked to us for the latest Gramophone Podcast about five of the nominees that he would admit into the Gramophone Hall of Fame: Pierre Boulez, Carlo Maria Giulini, Giuseppe di Stefano, Fritz Wunderlich and Luciano Pavarotti.
You can stream the Podcast below, or download it by subscribing (for free) to our podcasts at iTunes - where you'll also find another Hall of Fame-themed Podcast with violinist Daniel Hope, in which he discusses his choices.
