The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is to become orchestra in residence at the Cambridge Corn Exchange for the next three years. The RPO will perform three concerts for the forthcoming Cambridge Classical Concert Series, which runs from October 2013 to May 2014. Also appearing in the series are the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the Basel Symphony Orchestra. The Royal Philharmonic’s education wing, RPO resound, will in addition present a range of projects in partnership with the Corn Exchange and Cambridgeshire Music.
‘It is wonderful to see the orchestral series going from strength to strength, attracting new audiences and concerts consistently playing to packed houses,’ said Cambridge City Council’s Cultural Facilities Manager Steve Bagnall. ‘The RPO’s three-year residency will help raise the series’ profile yet further, as well as bringing some fresh and exciting musical education projects to the City, all focused on the experience of performing to a live audience within the unique acoustic of the Corn Exchange.’
The 2013/14 series will also see Julian Lloyd Webber step down as Corn Exchange artist in residence after three years. His successor will be announced later this year.
