Violinist James Ehnes is to visit Wells Cathedral School on November 30 to give an afternoon of public masterclasses with six students. The Canadian virtuoso will work with the talented youngsters on repertoire including the Sibelius and Beethoven Violin Concertos and Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy.

The specialist music school has welcomed a number of celebrated guest artists throughout the years, but Ehnes’s visit is ‘one the most significant events since Sir Yehudi Menuhin worked with our students here some years ago,’ according to head of strings Matthew Souter.

‘We are honoured indeed to have the wonderful James Ehnes visiting us and to be helping our students,’ continued Souter. ‘James is undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest musicians and violinist virtuosos alive today and quite naturally his visit is generating much excitement and practice!’
