The Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2014, presented in association with EFG International, have been announced with major prizes presented to Sir Neville Marriner, Sir James Galway, Leonidas Kavakos, the Nightingale String Quartet and Riccardo Chailly. 

Riccardo Chailly's recording of the Brahms symphonies with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra was named Recording of the Year. 

Leonidas Kavakos won the public vote for Artist of the Year and received the award from last year's recipient, Alison Balsom.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Sir James Galway, former Principal Flute of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra who has sold more than 30 million albums in his solo career.

A special Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to conductor Sir Neville Marriner to mark his 90th birthday year and to celebrate his prolific recording career.

The Label of the Year Award was given to the Edinburgh-based independent label Delphian Records. Founded just 14 years ago by Paul Baxter and Kevin Findlan, Delphian have steadily built an impressive catalogue of exceptional recordings.

The Young Artist of the Year Award went to not one musician but four: the Nightingale String Quartet. The quartet's two recordings for Dacapo Records dedicated to the music of Danish composer Rued Langgaard have both received high praise in the pages of Gramophone and proclaim the arrival of an inspirational new quartet whose career many listeners will be following closely in the years to come.
