The Britten Sinfonia is launching 'Musically Gifted', a flexible funding scheme, which allows audiences to contribute anything from £10 to £10,000 to a new commission. The scheme follows the success of the 'Tenner for a Tenor' scheme in 2011-12, which attracted donations from 350 people towards a new work by Jonathan Dove for tenor Mark Padmore and the orchestra.

In 2013-14, donors may choose to support new works by Sally Beamish, Brett Dean, James MacMillan, Roderick Williams, Mark Simpson, William Cole and the winner of the OPUS2014 open submission composer’s competition. Modest donations will be pooled and used to commission new works for performance in the Britten Sinfonia’s evening subscription and ‘at lunch’ series, while larger donations (over £5000) will help to create entire new works. All donors will have their names added to the front of the score.

‘The beauty of Musically Gifted is that it allows people from all walks of life to come together and contribute to new music,’ said Britten Sinfonia chief executive David Butcher. ‘It’s a great way for music lovers to have a real stake in the work that they hear on stage, to follow the creative process of some of our finest composers and to embrace the excitement that comes from supporting a piece of music from its inception to its first performance.’
