BBC Radio 3 returns to London’s Southbank Centre for a fortnight residency this autumn to mark the station’s 70th birthday, which falls on September 29. ‘Sound Frontiers’ will find Radio 3 broadcasting from the Royal Festival Hall from September 23 to October 7. As well as regular programmes like In Tune, Breakfast, Sunday Morning, The Essay, Free Thinking and the Early Music Show – which will come live from the pop-up studio – the festival will also include two concerts in the Philharmonia’s Stravinsky series conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen (September 25 and 29) and one by the London Philharmonic under Vladimir Jurowski with Nicola Benedetti – currently Gramophone’s cover artist – in the two Szymanowski violin concertos alongside music by Debussy and Bartók (September 23). Jane Parker-Smith will give an organ recital from the Royal Festival Hall on October 3 which includes Louis Vierne’s Second Symphony. 

Anyone interested in a career in radio can go along to the Southbank Centre on Sunday, October 2 (between 11.30am and 5pm) and attend panel discussions, workshops and speed mentoring with prominent figures from the world of radio, who share their thoughts on making it in the industry. And there are more informal opportunities to meet Radio 3’s technical team and have a go at making radio with workshops on radio presenting, music mixing and editing on Tuesday-Thursday, September 20-22, between 10.30am and 2.30pm. 

And if you want to start your day with a spot of yoga, then on September 29 and October 1 and 6, between 7.30am and 8.30am, join a yoga class on the Royal Festival Terrace accompanied by live classical music.
