Pop-up studio to broadcast from Stratford-upon-Avon over anniversary weekend
The BBC Radio 3 pop-up studio - whose previous residencies have included London's South Bank and the Sage Gateshead – will pitch up in Stratford-upon-Avon as part of the BBC's coverage of Shakespeare's 400th anniversary. From April 22-24 its temporary home will be The Other Place theatre, part of the town's Royal Shakespeare Company.
As well as programmes including InTune being presented from the pop-up studio – a concept which enables the station to bring the process of broadcasting closer to its listeners – other programmes from Stratford-upon-Avon will include a concert by Ex Cathedra and actor Samuel West from Holy Trinity Church, where the Bard is buried.
That weekend's programming will also include a departure for Building a Library, in which presenter Andrew McGregor will be assessing spoken-word recordings of Shakespeare plays, and a live broadcast of Verdi's Otello from New York's Metropolitan Opera.
