BBC Radio 3 has announced that presenter Sara Mohr-Pietsch is leaving its weekday Breakfast show after seven years in order to front choral programme The Choir on Sunday afternoons and to lead the station’s Live From Wigmore Hall lunchtime concerts.

She will be replaced by fellow Radio 3 presenter, Clemency Burton-Hill, who currently leads the weekend breakfast show, and who will alternate her new weekday morning shifts with Petroc Trelawny from December 2. Burton-Hill has fronted BBC Young Musician, the BBC Proms and Radio 3’s New Generation Artists Scheme since 2011, and appears regularly on BBC Two’s The Culture Show and BBC Four’s The Review Show.

‘It’s been a pleasure to be the voice that Radio 3’s listeners wake up to for the past 7 years,’ said Mohr-Pietsch. ‘The warmth and intelligence of our community of listeners has made Breakfast a joy to present, and I was hugely proud of our Sony nomination last year. But after all those early mornings, I’ve decided I’m finally ready for a lie-in and a new challenge! I’m incredibly excited to be working across two distinctive strands in the Radio 3 schedule: The Choir and Wigmore Hall Live lunchtimes, featuring the world’s finest chamber musicians. I’m also passionate about choral music, having studied and sung it myself, and it’s been fascinating coming up with ideas for The Choir.’

Mohr-Pietsch, who was a choral scholar at Newnham College, Cambridge, will present her final Breakfast show on November 15. She will present Live From Wigmore Hall from December 2, and The Choir from January 5, 2014.
