Graham Johnson presents four free lectures spanning Schubert's life and songwriting

Wigmore Hall has today released a series of four lectures to mark the birthday of Franz Schubert (31 January 1797 – 19 November 1828). Pianist, scholar and author Graham Johnson’s lectures chronologically explore Schubert’s life and songs, weaving together live demonstrations, musical performances, paintings, drawings and historical documents.

Graham Johnson has enjoyed a five-decade long engagement with Schubert’s music, advising and performing in the Wigmore Hall’s series of 40 concerts presenting the complete songs of Schubert between 2015-2017. As a pianist he also recorded the complete songs of Schubert over 37 CDs for Hyperion Records

Wigmore Hall Director John Gilhooly said, ‘Graham’s incomparable knowledge and passion for Schubert make him the most persuasive advocate for the composer. Viewers will find watching these films a stimulating and pleasurable experience.’
