Violinist Maxim Vengerov to release first new album in five years – hear an excerpt!

Violinist Maxim Vengerov will release a recording of Bach and Beethoven on Wigmore Hall Live on January 14 - his first new album in five years following a sabbatical from the violin in favour of conducting. The release is a live recording of Vengerov’s first recital at London's Wigmore Hall in almost 20 years; the concert took place on April 5, 2012 and also featured pianist Itamar Golan. Included on the disc are Bach’s Partita No 2, Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata, Brahms’s Hungarian Dance No 1 and Wieniawski’s fiendishly difficult showpiece, the Scherzo-Tarantelle, Op 16.
‘I first played at Wigmore Hall when I was 17 and it has remained one of my favourite venues,’ said Vengerov. ‘It has a lovely acoustic and it is wonderful to be so close to the audience. I am proud to do a live recording for the Hall and its prestigious CD label.’
