The interview marks the upcoming 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on January 27

The 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau takes place on January 27. To mark the occasion, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust have created the Memory Makers project, which pairs survivors of the genocide with artists and writers who respond to their remarkable stories of survival.

Stephen Fry has taken part in the Memory Makers project by interviewing Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, who played cello in the 40-piece Auschwitz Women's Orchestra. In the fascinating interview below, Lasker-Wallfisch talks about her time in the orchestra and how her ability to play the cello almost certainly saved her life.
