Delve into this sumptious arrangement of 'La Foule' performed by Roxane Elfasci

We take to the streets of 1950's Paris with Édith Piaf's La Foule performed by French guitarist Roxane Elfasci. This arrangement by Roland Dyens features on 'Poésie Française', a new album by Elfasci featuring the music of late-Romantic French composers in arrangements for guitar as well as some 20th century French classics.

The century-defining Édith Piaf recorded Le Foule (The Crowd) in 1957 and it now stands as one of the cabaret singer's most enduring songs. The song was originally written in 1936 and was known by its Spanish title Que nadie sepa mi sufrir (Let No One Know my Suffering) - after hearing a recording by Argentine tango singer Alberto Castillo, Piaf was inspired to record a French version. Taking the form of an almost-frantic waltz, Le Foule describes the unexpected meeting between the singer and a man in the midst of a crowd. The words are certainly not lost in this arrangment here!
