We begin this week with a spotlight on the very rarely heard bass member of the flute family. Flautist and composer Daniela Mars performs her own 'Heartweaving' accompanied by Paul Smith. This single features on upcoming album 'Reverence for the Moment' set for release on 17 November by VOCES8 Records.

Standing at around 6 feet tall and playing 2 octaves below the standard concert flute, the contrabass flute rarely finds itself performing solo. Which is a great shame as it has a sonorous deep tone that has a softness that cannot be found in many other bass instruments - brilliantly displayed here!
