Watch the exclusive performance by the Echo Vocal Ensemble
We are to present a performance of Judith Weir’s Ave Regina Caelorum by the Echo Vocal Ensemble, conducted by Sarah Latto and recorded in the beautiful surrounds of Castle Howard in North Yorkshire.
The current Master of the King's Music composed the work in 2014 for the Merton College, Oxford Choirbook which was compiled to celebrate the College's 750th anniversary. Rather uniquely the mass text, 'Ave Regina caelorum' (Hail, Queen of Heaven) is set twice - after we hear it for the first time it returns in a more contemplative and intimate answer to the energised rhythms of the opening.
Singers (L-R): Hilary Cronin, Sam Cobb, Angharad Rowlands, Sophie Timms, Will Wright, Jacob Ewens, Tom Herring, John Laichena Conductor: Sarah Latto
The ensemble returns to the Yorkshire on Saturday 25 November for the premiere performance of Sweet Disharmony, a programme exploring the beauty of dissonance in sacred vocal music. They will be performing at Malton’s Birdsall House, a venue that rarely opens its doors to the public. Tickets are available here
