'William Byrd: The Great Service & English Anthems' from Alamire, organist Stephen Farr, His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts and David Skinner has just been released by Inventa Records. We are pleased to present a video performance of the Venite from The Great Service.

The new recording commemorates the 100th anniversary of the modern premiere of the piece in 1924, and also completes Alamire and David Skinner's survey of Byrd's choral works. 

An earlier release in the series called 'Byrd 1588: Psalmes, Sonets & Songs of Sadnes and Pietie' was shortlisted for a Gramophone Award in 2022, with reviewer Fabrice Fitch noting: 'Variety is built in; and as one expects from these interpreters, the performances are seldom less than immaculate. The vocalists do especially well: O Lord who in thy sacred tent and Although the heathen poets are as balanced and precise pieces of ensemble singing as I’ve heard in a while, the first solemn without being ponderous, the second balancing warmth and lively detail.'
