Celebrate the first New Music Biennial with recordings made in London and Glasgow
This year marks the launch of the first New Music Biennial in the UK. Two weekends are devoted to 20 commissions covering a wide range of musical genres from contemporary classical, folk, jazz to world music, urban and electronic. BBC Radio 3 broadcast a selection of the works last week after Live in Concert and on Saturday's Hear and Now, recorded at the Southbank Centre weekend, and all 20 works will be repeated as part of the Commonwealth Games celebrations in Glasgow (on August 1 and 2 at the Royal Concert Hall).
The project is a PRS for Music Foundation initiative, in partnership with Creative Scotland, Arts Council England and the British Council. It is presented in collaboration with BBC Radio 3, NMC Recordings, Southbank Centre and Glasgow UNESCO City of Music.
Composers include Arlene Sierra, Yann Seznec, Akwasi Mensah, Stephen Montague and Gwilym Simcock. All the works will be released as both MP3 files and as FLAC (there will be no CD equivalent). The 20 works will be available for download at £10 throughout July and August, and the works will be delivered to your inbox by NMC as they become available.
