The London Symphony Orchestra has joined the Society of Sound, a music ‘club’ that offers members a series of recordings of each year. The Society will be jointly curated by Peter Gabriel and his Real World Studios and the LSO. Each month – for an annual subscription of £33.95 ($59.95) – members can download two albums as lossless files (in either FLAC or ALAC, Apple’s lossless format). 

The aim of the Society of Society is to disseminate great music and great music-making in the best recorded sound in a format that enhances the listener’s experience. This supports the aim of B&W – one of the world’s leading manufacturers of loudspeakers and headphones – of reproducing sound in as faithful a way possible (B&W speakers are used in numerous recording studios the world over).

Membership of the Society gives access to the 70 titles in the LSO Live catalogue – the most recent of which is Valery Gergiev’s live recording of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony made in St Paul’s Cathedral – as well as the huge Real World catalogue which crosses boundaries from jazz to rock to world music to classical (artists include Benjamin Grosvenor, Tom Kerstens, Peter Gregson and Ennio Morricone).
