The Goldsmiths’ Company, one of London’s Twelve Great Livery Companies, has commissioned a new composition by Guildhall School Fellow Francisco Coll. The work celebrates the company’s exhibition, ‘Gold Power and Allure – 4500 years of gold treasures from across Britain’, held at Goldsmiths' Hall throughout June and July.

Performed by the LSO Brass Quintet, Coll’s ‘Golden Fanfare’ receives its premiere as part of a gold-themed concert on June 27. The work also commemorates the City of London Festival’s 50th Golden Anniversary. In 1962 the festival commissioned A Song for the Lord Mayor’s Table by William Walton. That work, too, was first performed in Goldsmiths' Hall – by celebrated artists Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Gerald Moore.

‘The purity of gold was my focal point,’ said Coll of his new work. ‘I have strived to capture its essence in precise, concise musical terms that will be evocatively translated into golden tones by the LSO Brass Quintet.’
