Why The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen deserves your vote for the 2023 Orchestra of the Year Award

Gramophone's Orchestra of the Year Award is the only Gramophone Classical Music Award decided by public vote (vote here). The 10 orchestras nominated this year are:

BBC Philharmonic (UK), Berliner Philharmoniker (Germany), Chicago Symphony Orchestra (USA), Le Concert des Nations (Spain), Danish National Symphony Orchestra (Denmark), Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (Germany), Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (Finland), London Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), Orchestre de Paris (France), National Symphony Orchestra (USA)

This week, we focus on ...

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (Germany)

Founded in 1980, this magnificent orchestra (which can be expanded to embrace the demands of larger repertoire) has been in the artistic care of Paavo Järvi since 2004, so what better time than to celebrate its excellence, and a palpably inspiring musical partnership, as they approach their 20th anniversary. With Haydn symphonies under Järvi (which ‘brim with life’) demonstrating the vibrant creativity of this long relationship, Beethoven and Stravinsky violin concertos with Vilde Frang (‘attentive to every small detail’), and Weinberg under Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, this orchestra’s range is remarkably broad and its ability to deliver makes it one of Germany’s finest – and thankfully they’re wonderfully well represented on record.

Haydn Symphonies Nos 101 & 103 Paavo Järvi (RCA Red Seal, 6/23)
