Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai also names Fabio Luisi Conductor Emeritus
Robert Trevino has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai. The Italian ensemble, based in Turin, has appointed the American-born musician to the post for an initial three years.
Trevino adds the post to his roles at the Basque National Orchestra, where he is Music Director, and the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, where he has just extended his relationship for a further two years, taking on the title of Artistic Adviser when his term as Chief Conductor concludes at the end of the current season.
With his Basque ensemble he recently released an album of Ravel’s music on Ondine, while with his Malmö orchestra he last year released a Beethoven symphony cycle, also on Ondine, and about which he spoke to Gramophone for a Podcast: listen here.
Commenting on the appointment at RAI Torino, Trevino said: ‘Since the first moment I made music with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, in Strauss’s Alpine Symphony, it was evident that we had a mutual understanding of our purpose as artists, to communicate and give expression to the greatest of emotions we all feel.’
Previous Principal Guest Conductors of the orchestra include Jeffrey Tate and Gianandrea Noseda; the orchestra's out-going Music Director is James Conlon, while the orchestra has also just announced that Fabio Luisi will take on the role of Conductor Emeritus. Luisi's current posts include Music Director at the Zurich Opera House, Music Director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor of the Danish Radio National Symphony Orchestra.
