Violinist Kyung Wha Chung has returned to the studio after a break of 15 years - and 45 years after the release of her first record. 

For her return she’s chosen to record the complete Bach solo Sonatas and Partitas. Details of future releases have not been announced but are set to include a recital disc with pianist Kevin Kenner and a concerto recording.

‘I’m delighted to announce that I am so happy to be returning to the recording studio after many years for a series of exciting artistic projects,’ said Chung. 

Chung first signed an exclusive recording contract with the fore-runner of today’s Warner Classics, EMI, in 1988. Among the subsequent releases was the Gramophone Award-winning recording of Bartók's Second Violin Concerto and Rhapsodies with Sir Simon Rattle, reviewed in June 1994. She has also recorded for Decca, and with Deutsch Grammophon won a Gramophone Chamber Award for Violin Sonatas by Strauss and Respighi with Krystian Zimerman.  

Kyung Wha Chung stepped down from performance in 2005, focusing on teaching and her family. She returned to the concert platform in 2010, began touring in 2013 and performed in the UK in 2014. Forthcoming performances include opening the Verbier Festival on 22 July, and a series of recitals in the UK and Ireland in October, followed by a concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall on May 18, 2017.
