The Retrospect Ensemble has named its new artistic director as Justin Doyle. The former Westminster Cathedral chorister and King’s College, Cambridge graduate has been artistic director of the Ryedale and Swaledale Festivals, and has worked with Opera North, the Northern Sinfonia, the Hallé Orchestra, King’s Camerata and Manchester Camerata. He replaces Matthew Halls, who steps down due to increased conducting commitments in Europe and America and his new role as director of the Oregon Bach Festival.
‘We have been looking for…an individual who will bring a fresh perspective and be able to give Retrospect Ensemble the administrative and managerial time that the job demands,’ said Nick Taylor, chairman of the Board of Trustees. ‘We are delighted to have Justin on board with immediate effect.’
Doyle added: ‘I am thoroughly looking forward to working with this first class group of musicians, and will relish the opportunity to continue Matthew's excellent work bringing unusual repertoire to life.’
Formed in May 2009, the London period instrument orchestra and choir has undertaken concert tours to the Far East, Middle East and Europe and performed at a number of prestigious UK festivals. The ensemble has also made several albums for Linn Records.
