Five pianists and two orchestras take part

Following his BBC Prom marathon, when he performed all five of Prokofiev's piano concertos in a single concert with three pianists and the LSO, Gergiev is repeating the concept – but with five pianists and two orchestras, the Munich Philharmonic and the Mariinsky Orchestra. The day of concerts forms part of the Munich Philharmonic's MPHIL 360º, a three-day festival which culminates with these concerts.

On November 15, pianists Herbert Schuch, Denis Matsuev, Behzod Abduraimov, Alexei Volodin and Olli Mustonen will each perform a piano concerto - in that order. The St Petersburg ensemble will join them for Nos 1, 2 and 4, with the Munich orchestra playing Nos 3 and 5. The concerts with take place in the Gaststeig in Munich at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm (CET; one hour earlier in the UK) and will be webcast live on Medici TV

As well as the five piano concertos, Gergiev will conduct works by Haydn, Weber, Reger, Shchedrin, Widmann and Mozart.
