Ahead of a new album and a Wigmore Hall appearance, Gramophone caught up with guitarist Xuefei Yang for a video interview.
November sees the guitarist release 'Sojourn' a new album on Warner Classics exploring the breadth of the repertoire she performs. As she puts it, it features 'a wide range of my playing, from popular to classical, miniatures to masterworks, as well as recordings of Chinese music, Bach transcriptions, and a movement from Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.'
On November 3 she also gives a solo recital at Wigmore Hall, which includes the world premiere of a piece by Chinese composer Chen Yi. She talks about commissioning this - and other works - in the interview, and begins by reflecting on the influence and importance of Julian Bream, Andrés Segovia and John Williams.
You can also watch her and tenor Ian Bostridge perform a selection of Britten's Songs from the Chinese at the 2013 Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2013 held at London's LSO St Luke's.
