The Queen's Birthday Honours list for 2012 has acknowledged the Arts and a number of figures from the musical world have been rewarded. The opera director David McVicar has been knighted. CBEs have been awarded to the composer and broadcaster Michael Berkeley and the conductor and founder of The Sixteen, Harry Christophers.

OBEs were given to Edward Gardner, music director of the English National Opera; Andrew Jowett, chief executive of Town Hall and Symphony Hall, Birmingham; the violinist Tasmin Little; the pianist Joanna MacGregor; the choirmaster and broadcaster Gareth Malone and the former director of opera at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Elaine Padmore.

An MBE went to Katie Tearle, former head of education at Glyndebourne and to the composer Ernest Tomlinson. 

The comedy writer and former Gramophone contributor Armando Iannucci received an OBE.
