In a video message, the Romanian soprano introduces her forthcoming album 'Eternamente', her first new opera recital album for six years
In a special video message (below), Angela Gheorghiu has announced that she will be releasing a new album of verismo arias later this year, called 'Eternamente' it will be her first new opera recital album for six years.
Alain Lanceron, President, Warner Classics & Erato, said: 'Angela Gheorghiu had not recorded a recital since her "Homage to Maria Callas" more than six years ago. At last she has returned to the studio in the repertoire closest to her heart. This will be without doubt one of the most highly-anticipated releases of the season, and one Warner Classics is particularly proud to present.'
The album, which has been recorded with the PFK-Prague Philharmonia and conductor Emmanuel Villaume, will be released in the Autumn.
Gheorghiu has received Gramophone Awards for three previous albums: 'Verdi Heroines', Massenet's Manon and Puccini's Madama Butterfly. In reviewing that great Butterfly recording, Patrick O'Connor wrote: 'Gheorghiu somehow conveys not only the depth of Butterfly’s love but also her inner knowledge that, in fact, her belief in Pinkerton’s devotion is hopeless. This is a mature interpretation which suggests strength above all, so that the touches of vulnerability are added with subtlety.'
