A stimulating challenge for young adult singers and a sparkling, impressive start to a programme

I love Alex Ho's Tah Dah!, an exuberant, fanfare-like piece. It includes an array of extended vocal techniques including lip trills, which in fact end the piece in a huge fortissimo and a ‘lip smack’, which the composer suggests should sound ‘like a balloon popping’. Written for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain Fellowship Ensemble, this is obviously a piece for technically competent singers but, with its strong structure and beautifully crafted writing which leads the vocal lines clearly throughout, it could be a stimulating challenge for young adult singers and a sparkling, impressive start to a programme.
