British composer begins Christmas fundraiser for refugee charity Three Peas
Composer Roxanna Panufnik is calling on choir directors around the world to take part in her Christmas fundraiser, raising money for refugee charity Three Peas. Panufnik’s arrangement of the Maronite Syriac Christmas hymn Glory be to the Word is being sent to choral directors, who will donate £3 for every copy they print, if their choir wishes to perform it.
Illustrator Alex Scheffler of ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘The Snail and the Whale’, has drawn an illustration to go alongside the Carol. You can bid on this illustration until December 10 at 8PM BST. Proceeds of this will also go towards Three Pea’s work.
Three Peas is a charity aimed at helping refugees (including many from the Middle East) stranded in camps on Greek Islands. Three Peas said of the initiative: ‘We could not be more grateful to our patrons Roxanna and Axel for their continuous support over the years. Thanks to their generosity and commitment we can carry on supporting those who need it most.’
Two years ago, Panufnik raised £9,000 for The Refugee Council with a Ukrainian carol Sleep, Jesus, Sleep.
If you want to perform the carol, please email fundraiser@roxannapanufnik.com and specify unison or SATB (with organ or piano) to receive the score.
