Celebrating its newly refurbished pipe organ, the cathedral will host a week long festival
One year after the refurbishment of its historic pipe organ, Norwich Cathedral has announced a week long festival to celebrate the instrument. Taking place from 6 - 14 July, Organ Reborn! Will present a packed programme, including three headline concerts, six organ recitals and two talks. Norwich Cathedral Choir will be joined by Ely and Peterborough Cathedral Choirs to begin the festival, with performances of Parry’s I Was Glad and Handel’s Zadok The Priest, followed by a presentation of Britten’s work by BBC Singers on 11 July. The headline concerts will conclude with Britten Sinfonia and Norwich Cathedral Choir performing a programme of works by Fauré, Poulenc and Duruflé.
Donald MacKenzie, Anna Lapwood and David Briggs will perform a number of recitals throughout the course, including Anna Lapwood’s viral arrangements of Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar score. The ‘Battle of the Organs’ concert on Saturday 13 July will see Norwich Cathedral’s three organists: Ashley Grote, David Dunnett and Robbie Carroll join forces to play musical favourites ranging from Bach’s Toccata and Fugue D minor to the theme from Thunderbirds on three organs all at once.
Tickets for the festival are available to purchase on the Norwich Cathedral website.
